Throughout the Flameless Heater Unit, students in 7th grade Science have been engaged in learning about how an MRE (Meals Ready-To-Eat) works and what chemical reactions are occurring during the heating process. Students are currently designing their own flameless heaters in class, and discovering what reactants together produce heat in order to heat up food. Students have been very interested in learning more about MRE’s and how they were used outside of science, specifically in the military. Captain Labell is in the US Army and volunteered to show and tell us about his first hand experience with MRE’s. Specifically, he will tell us about what it was like heating and eating them during his time abroad in Germany.
