POETRY CAFE Writing is hard work! When students are done making all of their revisions and edits, we like to celebrate their achievements and create an audience for their ideas and creativity. Students in 3-R read their poems in a "Poetry Cafe" setting. It was very hip atmosphere with a darkened room and a spotlight shining on our young poets.

Beth Ferry gave 3 different assemblies on Thursday. She spoke about creativity and the writing process. She highlighted the role of revision and rewriting in making great story. She also emphasized the need to be able to collaborate with others and communicate ideas clearly. Then there's the sometimes difficult task of responding to rejection and critical feedback--and finding the courage and grit to persist. It felt like we were learning about life as well as books. She also had lunch with some of our 5th graders to talk more individually about the art of writing. It was a great visit all around! Thanks PTO! Fun Fact: She shared that one book took 6 rewrites while another took 167!
