Roosevelt 6th Grade Social Studies teachers Jeff Knight and Jim Lane and 7th grade Social Studies teacher Brian Vieth had their approximately 300 students perform a kinesthetic representative version of the Hindu and Buddhist Spring renewal festival called Lay Krathong on Wednesday, May 25 throughout the day.
The Spring ritual event was tied to the Ancient Asia unit of the 6th grade curriculum, and students related this ritual to similar religious rituals of Judaism and Christianity and Islam, which the 6th grade curriculum also covers. The event was coordinated with the 6th grade Roosevelt mathematics teachers to help students prepare emotionally for their annual cumulative mathematics test scheduled for the next day.
