Mr. Staluppi works with students in small groups most of the time but also likes to gather everyone that plays the same instrument together to work on their songs. Today the trumpets were proudly blasting out their notes and having a fun!
Mrs. Goodman's class brought their writing session outside to capitalize on the beautiful weather. They worked the craft of writing, "showing" not "telling" using vivid vocabulary, similes, metaphors and onomatopoeia. They collaborated, wrote drafts and revised sentences for clarity and detail. What a great way to spend part of their Friday afternoon!!
Our Student Council Celebrations Committee meets regularly to work together. Here they are working on slides for “Safe Schools Week” for the digital slideshow that is displayed outside our office. Thanks student council!
Jack Yonezuka came to tell our 5th graders about his journey from New Jersey to the Paris Olympics to compete in judo! He trains locally in Cranford. Below are a few words of wisdom. Hard times make you stronger. Don't give up! Believe in yourself. Being an Olympian (or anything you want to be) is all about the journey. Thanks Jack! We'll be rooting for you at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028!
This October, we recognize the resilience, achievements, and ongoing advocacy of individuals with disabilities. We reaffirm our commitment to creating a more inclusive society and celebrate the diverse perspectives and talents that enrich our communities.
Franklin teachers are hard at work during today's professional development! Our teachers are having collaborative, collegial discussions for informed instructional decision making.

Here are the Music Students of the Month!
These students demonstrate respect, kindness, a positive attitude, and strong effort in every class.
Congratulations!!
Yes, having buddies at school is fun and it builds a stronger Franklin School community. In addition, our buddy activities can also help us achieve the learning goals we have. Our older students can take the lead on these projects, which builds their confidence. 4G and 2R are buddy classes. Here are some pictures of a "descriptive monster" activity they did. One partnership created a monster and wrote a detailed paragraph describing their monster, while another partnership had to recreate the monster using only the paragraph as their guide. At the end, they had a "big reveal" to see how similar or different the monsters looked. This lead to a discussion about the importance of using precise and detailed language which are learning objectives of our writing program. Lot's of fun but so much more!
Our PTO sponsors our thriving student council. The student volunteers are divided into subcommittees that are in charge of certain tasks and responsibilities at Franklin School. The students have a lot of fun but they are also building their leadership skills and are being great role models for the school. One subcommittee is the Celebrations Committee. Their tasks include informing the school about holidays and special events. They do this in many ways but one way is to make all school announcements on the loud speaker. This is a special privilege and often a daunting task. No matter how nervous they get, they always rise to the occasion! Well done!
Mannie, a top 10 professional biker, wowed our students with his amazing skill and his message of kindness, determination and respect. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring this assembly!
The Westfield Fire Department gave us a visit today to discuss fire safety to our 1st through 3rd graders. They played this video below as part of the assembly. We are sharing it so you can reinforce the need to have a family plan in case of a fire and to use your senses to keep you safe. There is more detail in this video.

Celebrate your child's birthday by sponsoring a book for the Franklin School Library! Your participation enriches the library, helps foster a love of reading, and gives your child a special connection to our school.
To participate, select the book you would like to donate from the pre-selected titles on the Sign Up Genius form and send a check for $20 to the Franklin School Fund (no cash please) attn. Mrs. Kennedy.
Mrs. Kennedy will then purchase the book and place a bookplate inside with your child's name and birthdate on it. Your child will be presented the book for their birthday and be the very first student to borrow the book before it is added to the library collection for all to enjoy.
